Njamba ya Ita – Charles King’ori

Every once in a while, I get a song I cannot get out of my head. We call those earworms. It’s almost always a Kikuyu song thanks to the one and only DJ Dolls. This is this week’s song. It had to be Charles King’ori. That guy has a voice from heaven. And deep lyrics.

Rwimbo rwa Kiumia

Kuhotaniirwo ni Ngai
Kuruirirwo ni Ngai
Ucio Mumbi wa thii na iguru
Ni We unduiririe

Kurwo ni nii ndireruiriire
Na hinya wakwa na uhoti wakwa
Ti itheru nii ingiathiriire
Mokoini ma acio aganu

[CHORUS]

We Wi Njamba ya Ita
We Wi Njamba ya Ita
Niuhotaniire Baba
We Wi Njamba ya Ita

Nake Jusufu endirio ni airiu a ithe
Ni tundu matiamwendete
Ucio Jehova uria uranduiriire
Akiruirira Jusufu

Meciria maria marari na mo
Marendaga kuona ati nindathira
No meciria maria Ngai anjiciragia
Aranjira ni mega na ma thayu[CHORUS]

Hindi iria thu ciakwa iranjetereire
Na ikehita ikauga ndigutura muoyo
Thiari waku na muthigi waku Baba
Ni cio iratumire nii makuke

I ni maranjariire mitego
Na ndirari na wa kundeithura
Giterengeini kiu kia mutegi
Jehova arangura na guoko gwake

[CHORUS]

Na ni ma kugwatwo ni kirumi
Ni mundu uria wothe mwihoki mundu
Tondu ruhiu rwa njora hamwe na itimu
Ndui no indeithie no itiandeithirie

Ni hari we njigite mwihoko wakwa
Angikorwo ni ahotaniire mbara ino
Ngukimuthukira ki kana ndimuhe ki
Ngai wakwa njagirire gukuhe, ngukuhe ngoro eh!

[CHORUS]

Riu ninditikitie kumenya na ma
Ati nongere mikuru i nduma
Ona no nyambate irima nene
No ndi Ngai ndingitigira

Aria mamenyanite na Ngai wao
Gutiri irima ingimakiria hinya
Goliatho ona ina hinya
Oragirwo na kahiga kamwe

God has been victorious for me
God has fought for me
He who made the heavens and the earth
Is the one who fought for me

If I fought for myself
With my strength and ability
No doubt I would have ended up
In the hands of the evil ones

[CHORUS]

We Wi Njamba ya Ita
We Wi Njamba ya Ita
Niuhotaniire Baba
We Wi Njamba ya Ita

Joseph was sold by his brothers
Because they did not love him
Jehovah who fought for me
Also fought for Joseph

The thoughts they had
They wanted to see that I was finished
But the thoughts that God had for me
He tells me they are good and of peace

[CHORUS]

When my enemies were waiting for me
And they swore that I would not live
Your rod and staff, Father
They caused me to fear no more

Oh they laid traps for me
And I did not have anyone to rescue me
In that very snare of the trapper
Jehovah delivered me with his hand

[CHORUS]

Indeed a curse follows
That man who trusts in another man
Because both sword and spear
I knew would help me but they did not

To you I put my trust
If he has won this battle for me
What can I offer or give him?
My God I should give you, I give you my heart!

[CHORUS]

Now I know for sure
That I can pass through dark valleys
And even climb high mountains
But with God I will not fear

Those who know their God
No mountain will be too high for them
Goliath, despite his strength
Was killed with a single stone

You realize this guy is quoting most of Psalms, right? Yep. Deepness. Atigitia hanini etwo Daudi King’ori. Ti gutinda ugicokera karaini kamwe rwimbo rugima ukiugaga no Mwathani urainira. 😀

  1. My fav Kikuyu song has always been “Nie Nieguenda Ngai umenyage…”

I don’t know how to write in Kikuyu.

I remember singing it every morning back in class 1, St. Paul’s Primary Limuru. That’s back in 2000.

We all sang that song in school. I guess all primary schools in places are primarily Kikuyu inhabited. ☺
